MILLWORK
Tradewood warrants to the customer that if installed, finished, maintained and operated in accordance with the following instructions, for a period of five (5) year from date of delivery, each item of the millwork will conform in all material respects to Tradewood’s written specifications for the item and will be free from defects in materials and workmanship.
Failure to strictly follow Tradewood Windows and Doors Inc. product care, maintenance and protection requirements will void warranty. Normal wear and tear is not covered under any section of the Tradewood Warranty.
SECTION 1.1
OTHER ITEMS
Tradewood takes every practicable step with the greatest of care to ensure that the products we produce are comprised of the highest quality materials using the best quality assembly techniques to ensure durability and long lasting elegance for years of use under normal conditions. However, there are conditions that are beyond the control of Tradewood and we cannot be held responsible.
Wood is a natural material with variations in color, texture and grain pattern. These variations are influenced by the natural growing process and are uncontrollable by the manufacturer. The manufacturer cannot select solid lumber cuttings within a species in the manner in which veneers may be selected. Color, texture and grain variations will occur in the finest architectural woodwork.
Natural variations in color or texture of woods are not defects. Bleed through of resin, pitch or tannins are also not a wood defect. Wood and wood composites such as Medex will expand and must be protected from moisture or excessive heat and dryness unique to both natural and regional environmental factors. Natural movement of the substrate is not considered a defect.
Failures or defects not covered include substrate failures such as cracks, panel shifts, or joint separation. In addition, failures due to improper installation and maintenance, or moisture penetration due to improper sealing or caulking are not covered. There are no other warranties which extend beyond the description hereof. Notwithstanding the foregoing, door stiles are warranted to remain true for a period of one (1) year from date indicated above, provided Tradewood’s multi-point lock system is ordered and properly installed, and doors are properly maintained, including the painting of all door edges and faces, as per this and other supporting documents.
There are numerous third-party components used in Tradewood products which are covered by their manufacturers’ separate warranties, copies of which are available upon request.
Other exceptions to the five (5) year warranty, such as insulated glass, pre-finishing and hardware are listed in sections following.
Wood windows and doors should be adequately protected from the sun and other weather elements by overhangs, deep recesses etc. as per the illustration shown below. Wood doors and panels are susceptible to expansion and contraction caused by humidity and temperature variations, which will vary based on your specific region. Without the correct overhangs, doors with a South, Southwest, Southeast or West exposure will require frequent maintenance and should be visually inspected annually.
Dark stain and paint colors will significantly exacerbate surface heat build up on these exposures and increase the incidence of required maintenance. Stained products without adequate overhangs may experience problems such as rapid finish deterioration, color fading, wood splitting, molding movement and joint separation as well as moisture penetration between panels, glass and applied moldings. Entry doors without the overhangs specified in the following drawing will not be warranted.
Tradewood’s obligation under this warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of defective or non-conforming products, or alternatively, issuing a financial credit, the value of which is to be solely determined by Tradewood.

Flush/low profile door sills or flush, low profile tracks for lift and slide doors are not warrantied against water or air intrusion of any sort. It is the responsibility of the owner/architect/contractor to ensure that these units are not installed in areas exposed to unfavorable weather conditions.
SECTION 1.2
WARPING OF DOORS OR WINDOW SASH
Warping shall not be considered a defect unless it exceeds 1/4” in the plane of a 96” tall door and 3/8” for doors up to 120” tall and does not refer to the relation of the door to the frame or jamb in which it is hung. Trdaewood multipoint hardware must be used, and door must be kept locked when not in use. Action for any claim for warp may be deferred, at the option of the manufacturer, for a period not to exceed 12 months from date of claim to permit conditioning to humidity and temperature. Exterior flush and plank doors are not covered under this section of the warranty.
SECTION 1.3
UNITS WITH BARE INTERIORS
Clients requesting that no finishes are applied to the interior of any Tradewood exterior window or door products, or interior doors must plan on sealing and/or finishing within 15
days of installation to prevent excessive absorption or loss of moisture. This will reduce the chance of materials warping, cracking, checking, shrinking or releasing pitch or tannins contained within the wood. Any warping, checking, shrinkage and release of pitch or tannins under such conditions are expressly omitted from this warranty.
Customer shall promptly notify Tradewood in writing of any alleged defects in the millwork and specifically describe the problem. Tradewood shall have no obligations under this warranty with respect to any defect unless it receives notice and a description of such defect no later than thirty (30) working days following the expiration of the warranty period.
Tradewood’s obligation under Section 1.3 of this warranty is limited to repairing or replacing any millwork or parts thereof that Tradewood determines not to conform to this warranty. If Tradewood makes such determination, Tradewood will furnish either replacement millwork, free of charge, F.O.B. the original point of delivery, or send a representative to make on site repairs, at Tradewood’s option. In no event, however, will Tradewood be responsible for installation, repainting, refinishing, or other similar actives necessary to complete the replacement of the millwork.
It is the customer’s responsibility to properly care for and protect new millwork against moisture or excessive dryness, and to see that top and bottom edges and all surfaces are thoroughly painted or varnished. The foregoing warranties shall not apply to any millwork which has been installed, modified, repaired or maintained in a manner inconsistent with the methods recommended by Tradewood. Tradewood’s responsibilities are limited to the correction of the warrantied condition only.
SECTION 2.1
HARDWARE
While all window and door hardware is manufactured by others, it is Tradewood’s policy to provide a warranty against defects or errors in workmanship for hardware recommended and purchased by Tradewood. Tradewood warrants to customer that, for a period of one (1) year from date of delivery, each item of the hardware will be free from defects in materials and workmanship. Hardware recommended or purchased by the customer is not covered by this warranty.
Electronics products and automation systems supplied with Tradewood products are warranted for one (1) year from the date of delivery, subject to the specific electronic systems suppliers limitations and exclusions.
Hardware should be cleaned using only a soft cloth with mild soap and water. The finish on exterior hardware can be affected if exposed to industrial chemicals smog, saltwater environments. Avoid cleaning with harsh chemicals, vinegar, citrus based cleaners, paint removers, window cleaners or any other industrial or harsh chemicals. Lubricate lock systems at intervals relative to the amount of exposure to which they are subjected.
Customer shall promptly notify Tradewood in writing of any alleged defects in the hardware and specifically describe the problem. Tradewood shall have no obligations under this warranty with respect to any defects unless it receives notice and a description of such defect no later than thirty (30) days following the expiration of the warranty period.
Tradewood’s obligation under Section 2.1 of this warranty is limited to repairing or replacing any hardware or parts thereof that Tradewood determines not to conform to this warranty. If Tradewood makes such determination, Tradewood will furnish either replacement hardware, free of charge, F.O.B. the original point of delivery, or send a representative to make on-site repairs, at Tradewood’s option. In no event, however, will Tradewood be responsible for installation, repainting, refinishing, or other similar activities necessary to complete the replacement of the hardware.
When manual or motorized roll screens and/or roll shades are included, damage to these units after delivery is not covered under this warranty. Proper adjustment of shade or screen travel will be the contractor’s responsibility.
Integration or compatibility with any third party provided system or device is the responsibility of the purchaser.
The foregoing warranties shall not apply to any hardware which has been installed, modified, repaired or maintained in a manner inconsistent with the methods recommended by Tradewood or the manufacturer of the hardware.
SECTION 3.1
INSULATED GLASS
Tradewood warrants all insulated glass it supplies, with the exception of bent glass units or sealed units purchased from third party vendors (eg. Heat Mirror or other specialty units not fabricated by Tradewood), to customers against failure of the air seal for a period of ten (10) years from date of delivery, five (5) years from date of delivery for sealed units over sixty (60) square feet. Items specifically excluded from this warranty: cracked or broken glass after delivery and acceptance of product, delamination of laminated glass, true bent glass, any failure in connection with the failure to maintain breather tube seals, if included, glass over 60 square feet, art glass or architectural glass (eg. Restoration glass), sealed units or any failure in connection with the installation of a replacement product.
Ascent Series insulated glass units fabricated by Tradewood Windows and Doors will have the following warranty coverage. Normal units up to 60 square feet are warranted for a period of 10 years, oversize units in excess of 60 square feet are warrantied for 5 years. Warranty coverage will commence from the date of manufacture. In no event will
Tradewood’s liability exceed the purchase price of the glass. All other warranty conditions specified in Tradewood’s Warranty document apply.
Laminated glass incorporating either a PVB (poly-vinyl butyral) or PET (polyethylene terephthalate) interlayer is limited to 5 years from the date of original purchase against defective materials or workmanship that cause delamination of the laminated glass causing material obstruction in vision through the laminated glass. Laminated glass incorporating Duponts SentryGlas Plus interlayer is limited to 10 years.
Excluded from this warranty are any laminated glass units with the edges exposed to the elements, laminated glass glazed with butt joints.
This warranty will be void if damaged during handling or installation, damaged due to movement of the building foundation or frame, not installed perpendicular to level of if the glass surfaces or edges are exposed to excessive temperature differentials. Cracked or broken glass; insulated glass installed where moisture accumulates and is not allowed to weep; insulated glass installed in ships, vehicles, a room with a swimming pool or in a greenhouse is not covered by the warranty. Any applied films will automatically void warranty.
All third party fabricated sealed units shall have the third party manufacturers’ warranty pass through to the owner.
Glass imperfections consistent with ASTM or other industry standards, which do not affect structural integrity, are not considered defects for warranty purposes. The optical distortion that is inherent in tempered, heat strengthened and laminated glass is not considered a defect and is excluded from coverage. Light that is scattered when passing through glass products can produce a milky or smoky condition that is known as haze. Performance coated glass products have a higher haze level due to the very slight roughness of the applied performance coatings. Haze is not considered a defect in the glass.
Customer shall promptly notify Tradewood in writing of any alleged failure of the air seal and specifically describe the problem. Tradewood shall have no obligations under this warranty with respect to any defect unless it receives notice and a description of such defect no later than thirty (30) working days following the expiration of the warranty period.
Tradewood’s obligation under this warranty is limited to supplying materials only to replace any insulated glass. Labor to replace the glass is not included. Tradewood determines to be defective. or granting a credit to customer for the insulated glass. Tradewood will not be responsible repainting, refinishing, or other similar activities necessary to complete the replacement of the insulated glass.
SECTION 4.1
Tradewood Windows and Doors Inc. offers priming, painting and staining services. Primers in no way are to be considered a waterproof finish and should be painted prior to or immediately following installation. For units specified with no interior finish, the units should be sealed with a protective coat prior to or immediately following installation. All exterior finishing applied subsequent to any factory applied finishes should lap the glass surface. Quarterly inspections and preventative maintenance of any finish is critical to assurance of finish integrity. Recoating may be necessary depending on the condition of the finish.
Inspections should identify signs of wear or weathering, particularly along high risk surfaces such as southern exposures where UV radiation is particularly intense, low lying, moisture prone areas or areas of the project that have micro-climate conditions. Any chips or scratches must be repaired immediately and not left exposed to the elements. Dirt and other contaminants can be super heated on these surfaces by the sun’s rays, resulting in the contaminants being etched into the finish surface. These surfaces should be cleaned thoroughly every 3 months.
Micro-climate conditions are areas that can trap air, moisture or areas prone to excessive temperature buildup, rainfall and moisture, wind and sunshine.
Documented proof of cleaning, such as a maintenance log, is required. Failure to comply with regular cleaning and maintenance requirements withing this specified schedule will invalidate this warranty.
Please Reference supplementary document entitled “Tradewood On-Site Care” manual for instructions on caring for and maintaining all Tradewood products through the construction cycle and beyond.
The complex interaction of the substrate with the coating and the environment in which the product will be used will directly impact finish longevity and maintenance. Annual visual inspections should be performed, particularly along horizontal surfaces, areas closer to grade level and areas of the project that have micro-climate conditions. Cracks from joint movement must be resealed. Finishes will fail due to penetrations through the surface which are not promptly sealed. Avoid or repair penetration of coating with fasteners during installation. Care must be taken to adequately reseal and repair areas damaged due to application of fasteners as well as areas violated through planning or fitting.
Damage to any coating due to on site storage, installation or maintenance practices is not covered. Subsequent coatings should be applied as frequently as required through visual inspections to produce and maintain the appearance desired by the customer. Failures or defects not covered include substrate failures such as cracks, panel shifts or joint separation.
Factory applied paint and stain finishes are guaranteed not to crack, peel or blister for a period of one (1) year from date of product delivery, provided products are maintained following factory specifications. Painted or stained wood door sills are not covered under this warranty. Seasonal inspections as per the direction outlined in the preceding paragraphs, are necessary, as is preventative maintenance.
For a period of three (3) years, Tradewood’s obligation under this warranty will be limited to supplying finish materials related to refinishing the affected components. Labour is NOT included. There are no other warranties which extend beyond the description hereof.
SECTION 4.2
EXTERIOR CLAD FINISHES
Aluminum expands and contracts due to temperature variations, as do most materials. At high temperatures, aluminum components will expand, and the opposite will happen at low temperatures. As such, increased allowance for movement are engineered (tolerancing) into the component design will be evident, and will vary from assembly to assembly, due to the size of the component or the way it has been mechanically fastened. This is a typical design practice and is not considered a defect.
Movement of certain snapped on or floating components may occur through shipping.
SECTION 4.3
POWDER COATING
Tradewood’s typical powder coated finish on fusion bond epoxy base is warranted for
a period of twenty (20) years from date of delivery against manufacturing defects resulting in chalk (in excess of ASTM D-4214 #8 rating, determined by the procedure outlines in ASTM D-4214), fading of more than five (5) Delta-E Hunter units as determined by ASTM method D-2244 method 6.3 and loss of adhesion per AAMA Specification 2605, excluding exceptions listed below.
For both powder coated finishes, fading or color changes may not be uniform if surfaces are not equally exposed to the elements and sun related ultraviolet rays.
In the event that a protective film is applied at the factory on some metal clad components, the film must be removed within 90 days from the date of installation.
SECTION 4.4
LIVE FINISHES
Live finishes, such as applied patinas, due to the very nature of the finish, are designed to embrace the natural ageing and the inherent beauty of the metal substrate, and will change tonality unevenly through time. This process is know as oxidation and is completely normal. As this is a natural, normal process, patina finishes are not covered by this warranty.
SECTION 4.5
anodized finishes
Anodizing is an electrochemical technique that strengthens the natural oxide layer on aluminum surfaces. The process transforms aluminum into a more durable, corrosion-resistant, and aesthetically pleasing material by immersing it in an electrolytic solution, typically sulfuric acid, and passing an electric current through it. The result is a protective aluminum oxide layer that enhances both the appearance and functionality of the material.
Tradewood aluminum clad products incorporate numerous profiled extrusions and flat stock plate, not all of which are available with the same alloying elements. The different alloying compositions impact the coloring consistency achieved through the anodizing process. As a direct result of the alloy variations, an exact color match cannot be guaranteed, and as a consequence, color variations on anodized aluminum surfaces can be expected. Every effort is made to mitigate this phenomenon. Different alloying elements affect the voltage response and current density required for anodizing, hence the variation in tonality.
Anodized finishes are to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of 10 years from date of delivery, with coastal and high salt environment exceptions listed below.
SECTION 4.4.1
coastal environments
Coastal environments can be extremely corrosive and some finish deterioration is normal and should be expected for all exterior finishes. Locations within one mile of a saltwater body or source will likely have more deterioration occurring.
Products installed within one mile of any saltwater coast or saltwater source must be cleaned thoroughly with mild detergent soap and water every three months at a minimum. More frequent cleaning must be performed where visible build-up of salt or corrosive residue is evident. Chips and scratches must be repaired immediately and not left exposed to the elements. Aluminum clad powder coated products in coastal environments are warranted to be free from manufacturing defects that result in abnormal corrosion or deterioration of the exterior clad or finish for a period of 10 years.
The determination as to whether abnormal corrosion or deterioration in coastal environments or in high areas of high salt concentration has occurred will be made at Tradewood’s discretion.
Anodized finishes are not warranted in coastal or high salt concentration sources.
Failure to comply with regular cleaning and recommended maintenance within the specified service schedule void this warranty. Documented proof of regularly scheduled maintenance (such as a maintenance log) is required.
Tradewood, at it’s sole discretion, will supply materials for repair. The customer is responsible for the arrangement and cost of repair and/or reinstallation.
SECTION 5.1
field testing
Conducting job site field testing or simulated product testing, as well as the frequency of such testing is left to the discretion of the customer. Tradewood must be notified of such testing to determine whether to have a Tradewood representative in attendance to observe the testing and the results, as well as to provide client support.
If testing is performed without Tradewood being notified. Notification should be sent at least 14 days prior to testing, and notice must be sent to service@tradewoodindustries.com. Notification must include project name and address, date and time of testing, reason and purpose of the test, specific units to be tested, and the General Contractors information. Prior to testing, a Tradewood representative must have the opportunity to inspect the Tradewood products to be tested. A copy of the test report must be submitted to Tradewood.
In the event of a test failure that can be remedied by product adjustments or modifications, Tradewood shall be given the opportunity to make such adjustments or modifications prior to re-testing.
Tradewood shall not be financially responsible for the cost of any field testing, regardless of pass or fail outcome. If Tradewood determines that a product fails an authorized field test due to a product condition covered by Tradewoods’ limited express warranties, Tardewood shall repair or replace the product in accordance with its warranty terms, but shall not be liable for the costs associated with any subsequent re-testing, labor, or re-installation costs.
SECTION 6.1
limitations
Misuse or Abuse. This warranty will not cover any product that has been subjected to any kind of abuse, misuse, alteration or neglect, or any manner that is inconsistent with any instructions regarding its use. Operation difficulties resulting from inadequate building construction, design, exposure to the elements, non-standard installations, including, but not
limited to, installations in a non-vertical, upside down, on-the-side or out-of-square positions, are not covered by this warranty. Any damages, failures or operating difficulties resulting from movement of the building structure, or from any special coatings, or films on the interior of the product, or use in swimming pool or other high humidity areas without adequate ventilation or humidity control, will not be covered under this warranty.
SECTION 6.1.2
field conditions
Tradewood will not be responsible for any conflicts between products manufactured in accordance with the approved shop drawings and any field conditions, such as shifting or settling of the structure in which the product is installed.
Use of brick wash, razor blades, or other inappropriate cleaners or chemicals will void warranty.
Tradewood Windows and Doors is not responsible for determining the suitability of any product for a particular project, design, application, climate, condition, use or customer need or purpose. This responsibility rests solely with the Architect/Customer/Builder.
Tradewood Windows and Doors is not responsible for determining whether the incorporation of its products into a building design will achieve any specific third party certification or standard. Responsibility for suitability rests with the architect, contractor, owner or their agent.
SECTION 6.1.3
coastal applications
This warranty does not cover leaks that may occur in door systems with ocean-side exposure (in-swing or out-swing). We recommend for any coastal applications where in-swing door systems are used that they also have combination storm/screen doors to reduce the risk of leakage.
SECTION 6.1.4
HARDWARE FINISHES
This warranty does not cover zinc dichromate finishes from normal fading or corrosion when used in corrosive environments. Corrosive resistant finishes are available upon request. Custom plating finishes on any hardware supplied by Tradewood are covered for a period of one (1) year from date of delivery. Custom plated finishes that are supplied to an ocean-side environment will not be covered by this warranty. It is recommended that any hardware finish be cleaned using a mild soap and warm water.
Because Tradewood employs many different kinds of hardware from a variety of manufacturers we cannot control the differences and variety from piece to piece in plated finishes due to differences that are inherent to dissimilar substrate material. Variation in colour may occur even when hardware pieces of the same brass/bronze alloy are used. Variations in colour and luster are not considered a defect but rather an enhancement to custom match finishes. It is the nature of certain "oil rubbed" finishes to wear down over time and with use. To prevent this, a lacquer finish must be used. The addition of lacquers will cause variation in color and luster.
Electric window operators, retractable screens, and other accessories supplied with Tradewood products are covered by the same warranties, limitations and exclusions that are provided by the supplier of these components.
Screens are not designed to, nor will they prevent falls.
Tradewood cannot be held responsible for any damage occurring from misuse, abuse, tampering, improper installation, improper maintenance, improper storage, extreme temperature conditions, or metal deterioration caused by atmospheric conditions over which Tradewood has no control.
High Humidity Areas. No warranty, either express or implied, are offered for products used in high humidity areas such as pools, greenhouses, or solariums. This extends to all areas of Tradewood's warranty package.
Outstanding Invoices. The terms and conditions of this warranty are only valid if all invoices are paid in full as per the terms and interpretation of Tradewood.
SECTION 7.1
NO WAIVER
Tradewood may, at its sole discretion, extend benefits beyond what is covered in this Limited Warranty. Such extension of benefits shall apply only to the specific instance in which it is granted, and shall not constitute a waiver of Tradewood’s right to strictly enforce this Limited Warranty in any or all other circumstances.
SECTION 7.2
NO MODIFICATIONS
Through the purchase, installation or use of Tradewood products covered under this Warranty, the customer agrees that they are not relying on any statements made by anyone, written or oral, that are contrary or in addition to this Limited Warranty. This Warranty may only be modified by written agreement signed by a duly authorized representative of Tradewood.
The foregoing remedies are exclusive. Tradewood makes no other express warranty. Tradewood disclaims, and customer waives any and all implied warranties, including, without limitation, implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Tradewood shall in no circumstances be liable in contract, in tort or otherwise for special, incidental or consequential damages, whether or not foreseeable. No employee or representative of Tradewood is authorized to modify this warranty, or Tradewood’s standard warranty for any product. The foregoing warranties apply only to the original purchaser.
The original purchaser of any Tradewood product acknowledges that they have read this warranty, understand it, agree with it, and are bound by its terms.
THE LIMITED WARRANTY SET FORTH BY THE MANUFACTURER IN THIS DOCUMENT IS EFFECTIVE FROM April 5th, 2025, AND IS THE ONLY EXPRESS WARRANTY APPLICABLE TO THESE PRODUCTS.
THE FOREGOING REMEDIES ARE EXCLUSIVE. TRADEWOOD MAKES NO OTHER EXPRESS WARRANTY. TRADEWOOD DISCLAIMS, AND CUSTOMER WAIVES ANY
AND ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. TRADEWOOD SHALL IN NO CIRCUMSTANCES BE LIABLE IN CONTRACT, IN TORT OR OTHERWISE FOR SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, WHETHER OR NOT FORESEEABLE TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
NO EMPLOYEE OR REPRESENTATIVE OF TRADEWOOD IS AUTHORIZED TO MODIFY THIS WARRANTY, OR TRADEWOOD’S STANDARD WARRANTY FOR ANY PRODUCT. THE FOREGOING WARRANTIES APPLY ONLY TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER.
Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages or limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above exclusion or limitation may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state.
This warranty supersedes all previous versions and notifications, and is not transferable. The original purchaser of any Tradewood product acknowledges that they have read this warranty, understand it, agree with it, and are bound by its terms.
